The US is Imposing Sanctions on Israeli battalions Accused of Human Rights Violations  

United States:  The US administration is considering subjecting punitive measures on one or several Israeli unit’s alleged human rights abuses during an operation in the occupied West Bank, based on a source privy to this matter. 

The Israeli leaders, including Prime Ministers such as Benjamin Netanyahu, threatened on Saturday that if the Biden administration imposes sanctions on Israel, it will amount to “the peak of absurdity and a moral low” while keeping the Israeli forces fighting the war against Hamas in Gaza, as the New York Times reported. 

Mr. Netanyahu himself added that, in his opinion, Israel will “act by all means” against any such sanctions.

After the announcement of the possible sanctions by Axios and the next day of the House’s approval of the USD 26 billion for Israel and other subjects of humanitarian aid for the conflict areas, including Gaza, it was obvious that there would be a response. The sanctions, if imposed, may not destroy the military aid deal that has been agreed on in the new bill. 

On Sunday, a general closed due to the killing of an Israeli military raid at a refugee camp in the West Bank together with a Palestinian strike. At least ten civilians were killed during the swoop carried out on Saturday, the latest operation in the unrelenting peace and security tightened by Israel in the occupied territory. 

About the Sunday’s strike 

On Sunday, the strike “paralyzed all aspects of life” in the West Bank, where the shops, schools, universities, and banks shuttered, as per the Palestinian officials. Moreover, public transportation was put on hold. 

Netzah Yehuda, who is an accused in the violence against Palestinians in the West Bank in the past. He was said to be settled for ultra-Orthodox Jewish men, the strict religious observance of whose demanded that men and women must be separated, as the New York Times reported. 

Moreover, this battalion is attracted by other Orthodox soldiers as well, not excluding the hard-line nationalists from the West Bank settler movement. 

Another shocking incident involved an episode leading to the Netzah Yehuda battalion where the death of a 78-year-old Palestinian-American man, who was previously detained by members of the unit in a night raid on his village in January 2022.
